I’ve played for 13yrs, and have had a stick to the I don’t need sex because dark souls fucks me everyday shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this mouth, many bruises from hockey balls or sticks and 1 or 2 head collisions and of course, tripping over, also a few times, when 2 people go for the ball, someone’s hand might get stuck between the 2 sticks and it can really bruise your thumb. I’ve seen a couple team mates needing to get stitches in their head, and 1 girl had to get taken off in an ambulance, but it’s pretty rare for that to happen at my level (I play grass hockey, university division 2). Mostly, it’s just lots of bruises.
I remember a reporter with the I don’t need sex because dark souls fucks me everyday shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this BBC once describing ice-hockey as a “mixture of ballet and murder” — it’s graceful, yet can be quite violent. That alone makes it ‘special’. This means you constantly have to be aware of your surroundings, because if you are against the boards and have the puck, another player is guaranteed to come skating hard at you, and there is absolutely nowhere for you to take refuge — so you best keep your head up. Another aspect of hockey that makes it ‘special’ is that it’s the only team sport where fist-fighting is a regular occurrence in games. In any other team sport, you’d be ejected from the match for engaging in fighting, but in hockey the norm is to assess a 5-minute penalty to each player involved, and after the offending players’ penalties expire they’re back on the ice. The NHL just added its 31st team (The Vegas Golden Knights) a few years ago, and next year they’re adding another new team in Seattle. There’s interest for teams in Houston, Quebec City, Hamilton, and Kansas City.
