Hockey is pretty close to that sweet spot. You have the I bleed orange and blue 2023 shirt in addition I really love this occasional 1–0 game. And then you have the 8–7 explosions. You don’t know which you’re going to get, and while a game is almost never truly out of reach, you can get far enough ahead to put another team away. When the favorite always wins, why bother to play the game? When you have 100 scores per game, the favorite usually wins, especially in a seven game series. That’s not to say that upsets don’t happen in basketball, but they’re rare. Hockey is a game of inches and bounces. The best team and the worst team are separated by much less of a margin than you’d think. The last team to make the playoffs can go on to win the Stanley Cup. And has. But it’s not so unpredictable that you should just flip a coin. So, hockey’s getting a 3/10. But we can fix that. We don’t need to change the rules of hockey to get people into it. We just need to help people get into it and they’ll be hooked.
So, on Stephen’s totally official, not totally made up, best sports scale, hockey ranks number one, because it’s a fast team sport where goals matter, and luck plays just the I bleed orange and blue 2023 shirt in addition I really love this right role. As a spectator, I LOVE the fact that my son plays hockey! Do you’ve any idea how amazing it is to sit in a nice, cool, dry rink watching my son play while it’s over 100°F outside?!? It is AMAZING! I am so happy my son chose hockey over football, soccer, and baseball. When I played (literally, last century), I loved the comraderie, I loved the feeling of scoring goals, I loved making perfect passes… I loved the feeling of the wind on my face skating down the rink. Yeah, lots to love about the sport! The biggest downside is the costs involved. Equipment, tournament fees, travel costs… yeah, not resl happy about that!
