Her family was separated, and she says they lost everything, materially at least. Traditional ways of thinking are hard to replace, and while Pallenberg was encouraged to become multilingual (she was sent to school in Germany for this purpose), a career on the stage was both disreputable and unthinkable to her parents. But Pallenberg was not to be held back. She dropped out of school at 16, palling around with the dolce vita set at home and the Warhol crowd in New York. Modeling offered her the opportunity to travel, and she took it. She was in Munich in 1965 when the Stones played; she met them backstage.
